The challenge

The challenge

Freelancers were sending invoices from spreadsheets and finding out they had not been paid when the rent was due. The existing tools were built for accountants, and felt like it.

The approach

The approach

I cut the invoice flow to four taps and designed the dashboard around a single number. Every chart had to earn its place by answering a question a freelancer had actually asked us.

The outcome

The outcome

Median time to send an invoice dropped from eleven minutes to under one. The component library I wrote in the first year still underpins the product, and the two designers I hired now maintain it.
